INSIGHT MEDITATION WEEKEND WORKSHOP – NEWCASTLE

Befriending the Mind

One common misperception of meditation is that it aims to stop thinking. However, the aim of insight meditation is to develop a more skilful relationship to every aspect of our experience, including our thoughts and emotions.

During this two-day non-residential workshop, we will explore ways to befriend the mind, to let go of unhelpful mental habits, and to cultivate helpful ones: states of heart and mind that lead to greater ease, happiness, and freedom.

Each day, there will be sessions of guided and silent sitting meditation, walking meditation, group discussion, optional individual meetings with the teacher and a period of optional, gentle mindful movement.

Experience level: This workshop is suitable for people who have some familiarity with mindfulness and/or insight meditation practice.
Pre-requisite at least one previous insight meditation one-day workshop.

Food: Please bring your own lunch. Teas and herbal teas will be supplied.

Equipment: Some chairs will be available, but please bring your own meditation cushion or bench if you have one, and a shawl or blanket.

Dates & Times:  Saturday 02/03/2019 and Sunday 03/03/2019 9:30-4:30 pm

NOTE: In support of our group practice, please arrive 15 minutes early to settle in for a prompt start, and make a commitment to stay for the full day, each day.

Newcastle contact person: Donna Lavell email dlavell@idl.net.au or phone 041 254 1393

Cost: $80 / $50 registration fee + dana/donation* to the teacher

*The registration fee covers a contribution to the venue hire, the teacher’s travel expenses, and admin costs.

In keeping with Buddhist tradition, the teachings are offered on a dana basis which means the teachers are not paid to offer this workshop. Instead, they rely on the generosity of the participants to help them continue to share their teachings with others, and there will be an opportunity at the end of each day to offer donations to support Jill’s ongoing teaching.

INSIGHT DIALOGUE WORKSHOP – NEWCASTLE

Insight Dialogue is an interpersonal meditation practice that brings the mindfulness and tranquility of traditional silent meditation into our experience with others. Resting on the foundation of traditional Buddhist teachings, this practice offers a way to integrate our dedication to a path of wisdom and compassion with our relational lives.

In this two-day non-residential workshop, we will explore the six guidelines of Insight Dialogue in conjunction with the classical Buddhist teachings. Working together in pairs, we will use the power of relational meditation practice to understand the habits of heart and mind that lead to stress and distress, and how to free ourselves from those habits so that we can live with greater ease and happiness.

This workshop is best suited to people who have some experience of insight/vipassana/mindfulness meditation, but prior Insight Dialogue experience is not required.
